Hello!
I’m Lauren Wiedemer, a DMA student, private lessons teacher, and flute instructor at the University of the Cumberlands. If we don’t already know each other, consider us friends (and flute friends)!
The moment I saw a flute being played in an orchestra, I knew that it was for me. My parents purchased a flute for $10 at a yard sale (yes - you read that right, ten bucks). After a little bit of work in a repair shop, I had my instrument, and a lot of 10 year old excitement. My mom played percussion in high school band, and my dad sang in the church choir, but neither had experience playing the flute. So, they signed me up for private flute lessons at the local music store.

Taking flute lessons was the best! I was able to excel faster than my peers, compete in solo & ensemble competitions at a young age, and play in studio recitals each semester. Having the personalized tutoring in my instrument and performance experience made all the difference for me not only in my flute skills, but in my confidence.
In flute lessons, I strive to create a personalized learning plan for your student to help them reach their individual goals. Whether you are 5 or 50, I value your willingness to learn, grow, experience and achieve, not only musically, but as a human being.
My flute journey, however, hasn’t been without setbacks. I remember crying on the front porch of my house after I received a rejection letter from a summer program. My flute teacher at the time was sympathetic, but also told me that I needed to continue on! She encouraged me to try out for the area youth orchestra later that summer, and I worked. my. butt. off. And guess what? I made it! (PS. That experience made me decide to become a professional musician!)
In flute lessons, we cheer each other on! Through setbacks and successes, we can choose to either be stagnant or to shine. I know because I’ve been there. I believe we can learn and grow from all experiences, and I am in your corner every step of the way encouraging you to be the best you can be.

In today’s day and age, we’re all busy. Growing up, I was not only focused on flute, but also had a very successful career as a high school and college athlete and excelled in my academics. Balancing and managing it all can be challenging - I get it, I’ve been there. Let me coach you on how to efficiently and effectively practice to make the most of your time and still get awesome results!
As a teacher, I am also dedicated to being a life-long learner. I have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Music Performance and I am currently working on my Doctorate in Music Performance. I actively seek out and participate in personal and musical development opportunities, so I can continue to be an available, up-to-date, knowledgeable resource for you!
In the same way, I encourage students to take advantage of as many learning opportunities as they can. That is why students in my flute studio perform up to four times a year, attend masterclasses, flute camps, summer programs, participate in honor and All-State bands, clinics. etc. - the opportunities are endless!

When I’m not practicing, performing, or teaching, you’ll find me outside! I love to play golf, disc golf, kayak, hike, and fish with my husband.
My favorite foods are tacos and ice cream. I start my day each morning with a cup of cold brew coffee.
I love musicals, country music, and playing board games with my family and friends.
Now that you know about me, I’d love to know about you! If you’re ready to take flute lessons and join an awesome group of flutists, use the contact button below to shoot me an email. I can't wait to connect!

And if you're interested... here is my "fancy" musician bio.
A Kentucky native, Lauren (Kohake) Wiedemer developed a passion for the flute at ten. Over the past 18 years, she has performed with orchestras, wind ensembles, chamber groups, and as a soloist in various venues. A recent graduate of the University of Louisville, Lauren had the opportunity to coach chamber ensembles, flute ensemble, and flute studio. She has a Masters of Music in Flute Performance from UofL and a Bachelor of Music emphasis in flute performance from Georgetown College. Lauren is currently working on her Doctorate of Music Arts in Music Performance.
Mrs. Wiedemer believes that she benefited from many exemplary teachers, including Dr. Julie Hobbs, Kathleen Karr (Louisville Orchestra) and Merilee Elliott (Lexington Philharmonic). She desires to pass down the rich, musical heritage that she has gained from working with these fine flutists and pedagogues to her own generation of students.
Lauren believes that flute lessons should develop each student as a total musician. In addition to the essential fundamentals of flute playing, Lauren emphasizes music theory, chamber music participation, and music appreciation in her studio. She works hard to develop a learning plan adapted to meet the needs of each student in a nurturing environment with the right balance of challenge and encouragement. Lauren has ten years of teaching experience from beginning to advanced students.
Mrs. Wiedemer is currently teaches flute at the University of the Cumberlands. She is actively engaged in the music community in her area. Lauren teaches private flute lessons to students in central and southeastern Kentucky and frequently performs with groups across the bluegrass.
